Is Your Password Already Dead? The Shocking Truth About Modern Security Risks
The rules have changed — here's what hackers know about your password that you don't.
Passwords may finally be on their way out. More websites and apps are offering passkeys, a newer way to sign in using the same security already built into your phone or computer—like Face ID, a fingerprint or device PIN.
Why does that matter? Unlike a traditional password, there’s nothing for you to remember, reuse or accidentally hand over through a fake login page. Passkeys are also designed to be resistant to phishing, one of the most common ways criminals steal account credentials.
For small business owners, this could mean fewer forgotten password headaches while adding another layer of protection to important business accounts.
You’ll increasingly see options such as “Sign in with a passkey” when setting up or logging into accounts. You don’t have to abandon every password today, but it’s worth learning what that little button means.
Tech Tip: When a trusted service you already use offers passkeys, take a minute to explore the option. Your face might just become your favorite password.
