Montgomery County Voters Combine Civic Duty with Community Support on Election Day

Montgomery County residents demonstrated strong civic engagement during the recent election, achieving a standout 49.79% voter turnout — the highest municipal turnout in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Beyond casting ballots, voters rallied to support neighbors impacted by the protracted federal government shutdown and the resulting suspension of SNAP benefits.

Community members dropped off thousands of pounds of nonperishable food items at polling sites, responding to “Operation Feeding Hope,” a grassroots effort launched by local Democratic leaders but embraced across party lines.

Donations included canned foods, pasta, hygiene products, and more, all distributed to local pantries like Martha’s Choice Marketplace and Mattie Dixon Community Cupboard.

County officials also allocated $500,000 in emergency food aid, but residents and organizers agreed the food drive’s spirit was nonpartisan.

With food insecurity affecting an estimated 85,000 county residents, the initiative brought the community together at a moment of urgent need.

Pottstown Allocates $400,000 for Urgent Norfolk Southern Bridge Repairs

Pottstown Borough leaders are moving quickly to address urgent repairs for the Evans and Franklin Street bridges, which cross the Norfolk Southern railway.

The bridges have been flagged for Priority 1 repairs, and construction could start as early as December after Norfolk Southern approved a $1 million contract.

Thanks to collaboration with Montgomery County, the scope and cost of the project have been reduced by nearly one-third, maintaining ADA-compliant pedestrian access and improving safety with curb-mounted lane delineators.

Pottstown will cover roughly $400,000 of the cost, using funds originally reserved for another bridge that now has Transportation Improvement Program funding.

Meanwhile, the community is celebrating growth, including a new 110-apartment project from Dwight City Group and PAED’s 60th anniversary.

Montgomery County Community College is also adding new green space, furthering the borough's revitalization.
