Helping Hands Across Montgomery County
Summer grocery gift card drive aims to support local families facing food insecurity.
As summer approaches, Montgomery County is stepping up to help local families facing food insecurity. County officials recently announced a Grocery Store Gift Card Drive, running from May 25 through July 10, to support residents receiving assistance through the Montgomery County Health and Human Services Department.
For many families, the summer months can bring added stress when school meal programs pause. With nearly one in five county children relying on free breakfast and lunch during the school year, access to healthy food becomes even more important once school is out. Instead of collecting only canned goods, the County is asking for grocery store gift cards, giving families the flexibility to purchase foods that best meet their household and dietary needs. Donations to stores that sell food — including supermarkets, big box retailers, restaurants, and food delivery services — are welcomed. Baby formula donations are also being accepted.
County caseworkers will oversee distribution to ensure help reaches families with urgent needs.
Residents interested in giving back can find donation details through Montgomery County Health and Human Services. Even a small contribution may help a local family put food on the table this summer.
