Bear on the Move
Black Bear Safely Relocated After Local Sightings
Montgomery Township residents got an unexpected wildlife surprise last week when reports of a black bear prompted a response from local police and the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
The bear was first reported near Route 202, Bethlehem Pike, DeKalb Pike, and Avenel Boulevard. Officers checked the area but were initially unable to locate the animal. Wildlife officials continued monitoring the situation and worked to track the bear’s movements.
By the early morning hours of May 30, authorities successfully captured and safely relocated the bear without incident. Officials reminded residents that bear sightings can occur as wildlife travels through developed areas in search of food or new habitat.
If residents encounter a bear, experts recommend remaining calm, avoiding sudden movements, backing away slowly, and never approaching or feeding the animal. Making noise and keeping a safe distance can help prevent dangerous interactions.
The successful relocation highlights the cooperation between local law enforcement and wildlife officials in keeping both residents and animals safe.
