Montgomery County's $300K Winter Lifeline: Who Gets Help Staying Warm?
Thousands of Families Could Benefit — But Do You Qualify Before Funds Run Out?

As colder weather approaches, Montgomery County is taking action to help protect some of its most vulnerable residents. County officials and local charitable organizations have secured $300,000 in funding to support emergency winter shelters throughout Montgomery County.
The funding will help shelter providers cover essential operating expenses before county reimbursements become available later in the winter. Emergency shelters will serve residents in Norristown, Pottstown, North Penn, and Upper Perkiomen when temperatures or wind chills are expected to fall below 32 degrees.
The initiative brings together Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Foundation, and several charitable partners to ensure shelters are prepared when freezing temperatures arrive. According to the county's 2026 homelessness count, 477 individuals were experiencing homelessness, including 59 who were unsheltered.
This funding will help local organizations provide a safe, warm place for residents during dangerously cold weather. It's an important example of community organizations and local government working together to make a difference.
