Montco Unveils First Housing Blueprint
Officials launch a countywide strategy focused on homes, neighborhoods, and housing stability.
Montgomery County has introduced its first-ever Housing Blueprint, a comprehensive plan designed to address rising housing costs, limited inventory, and homelessness across the county.
County officials say the initiative aims to create more opportunities for residents to find affordable housing while strengthening communities for future growth. The plan comes as housing prices continue to climb, with home values increasing significantly in recent years while available housing options have become more limited.
The blueprint focuses on five major priorities: preserving existing homes, expanding rental housing choices, helping more residents become homeowners, improving community infrastructure, and reducing homelessness through coordinated support programs.
The county also plans to encourage development near transit hubs, downtown districts, and employment centers where infrastructure already exists. Officials believe this approach can support growth while improving access to transportation and services.
In addition, Montgomery County will continue investing in programs that prevent eviction, provide home repair assistance, and support residents experiencing housing instability. Recent efforts have already helped hundreds of families remain housed and have expanded emergency housing resources throughout the county.
The Housing Blueprint was officially launched alongside the groundbreaking of a new affordable housing project in Upper Merion Township that will convert a long-vacant school building into 20 affordable apartments.
County leaders describe the blueprint as a roadmap for collaboration among local governments, nonprofit organizations, developers, and community partners to help ensure Montgomery County remains a place where people can live, work, and thrive. |
