Share Food Program Opens New Warehouse in Lansdale to Combat Food Insecurity |
Officials celebrate a significant advancement in the fight against hunger in Montgomery County. |
Lansdale is now home to two important food-security efforts — but they serve different roles. Manna on Main Street works directly with people in need, offering meals, a food pantry, and support services to local families. The newly opened food security warehouse, operated by the Share Food Program, functions behind the scenes as a large regional distribution hub. It stores and distributes food in bulk to pantries and programs across Montgomery County — including organizations like Manna — helping them serve more people efficiently.
Share Food Program has inaugurated a new 27,000-square-foot warehouse at 1111 N. Broad Street in Lansdale, marking a pivotal moment in addressing food insecurity within Montgomery County.
This facility will serve as a central hub for distributing emergency food assistance, senior food boxes, school lunches, and rescued food, enhancing the organization's capacity to support the community.
State Representative Steve Malagari expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "It was such a pleasure to welcome them to our community and celebrate neighbors helping neighbors. Together, we've come one step closer to ending hunger in our community."
The new warehouse is expected to improve the efficiency and reach of the Share Food Program, which currently serves approximately 55,000 low-income families, children, and seniors in the region.
In a statement, the organization highlighted the significance of this development: "While Share has long served Montgomery County, this new facility is our organization’s first dedicated food distribution hub in the county and marks a significant step forward in our fight against hunger in this region."
The grand opening event was attended by numerous local and state legislative leaders, along with the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, underscoring the collective commitment to combating food insecurity in the area.
In addition to the new warehouse, the Share Food Program has received a $500,000 federal grant to complete necessary renovations, including major roof repairs and a new sprinkler system, ensuring the facility meets safety standards for food storage and distribution.
As the organization continues to expand its services, community support remains vital. Residents are encouraged to participate in local food drives and volunteer opportunities to help sustain these efforts.
