Trivia Question❓

In Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, what famous historical figure lived at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-1778?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Montgomery County will mark Juneteenth with its annual Flag Raising Ceremony in Norristown, inviting residents, local leaders, and community groups to join the event.

This tradition honors the historic end of slavery in the United States and highlights the ongoing journey toward freedom and equality.

Juneteenth, observed on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, announcing liberation for enslaved people—years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Montgomery County’s ceremony aims to educate and inspire by remembering this pivotal moment while bringing the community together in reflection and shared purpose.

The event is part of a county-wide series celebrating resilience and cultural heritage, with activities planned throughout the upcoming weeks.

Pennsylvania’s distracted driving law, known as Paul Miller’s Law, recently marked its first year of enforcement, prompting local departments like Lansdale Police to renew safety reminders for drivers.

This law strictly bars the use of handheld mobile devices while driving, aiming to cut down on distracted driving crashes — still a top cause of preventable accidents statewide.

Officers have combined educational outreach and targeted enforcement to urge motorists toward hands-free technology and reduced distractions at the wheel.

Safety experts emphasize that even a moment’s glance at a phone increases crash risks, while police highlight that drivers of all ages are vulnerable.

Lansdale Police continue to encourage the community to prioritize safe habits, reminding residents that no call or text is worth a life on the road.

Stay alert, put the phone down, and help keep Montgomery County roads safe for all.
